GVL MASK INITIATIVE
Community Based Design | Public Health
Created with the intent of partnering with the Greenville Homeless Alliance, the GVL mask initiative was created during the COVID-19 pandemic, aiming to provide protection and support to those experiencing homelessness in Greenville, South Carolina.
-
A protective face mask that doubles as a list of GHA resources, color coded to the public city bus route map.
-
Constructed out of a soft polyester blend, the Greenville Homeless Alliance mask will be lightweight, moisture wicking and 50+ sun protection, perfect for individuals that spend most of their time outside in the elements. The material is washable and quick drying.
The outside of the mask will display a map of the Greenlink public transportation routes, with color coordinated dots at the locations of all 10 GHA organizations. The inside of the mask will have a list of all organization names, addresses and phone numbers.
-
An individual experiencing homelessness will receive a mask and the accompanying toiletry kit the first time they seek out assistance from a GHA resource. In order to be welcomed back, they must bring their mask with them.
-
The toiletry kit contains basic personal hygiene items to help those in need. In addition to a secondary GHA face mask, there is a first aid kit, dental hygiene tools, feminine hygiene products, socks, and disinfectant materials.
